The publication was intended to serve as a general news site, with Malaysian news and commentary, as well as articles on world news, lifestyle and sports.
These media sources are slightly to moderately conservative in bias.
The online news portal has also appointed Azeem Abu Bakar as its Managing Director and Dorairaj Nadason as the Managing Editor.
Free Malaysia Today initiated operations in November 2009 with several veteran news media figures, most notably former news editor of , contributor to and to Malaysian Insider.
