The Perseid meteor shower is an annual meteor shower that occurs from July 23 to August 20.
This behaviour is, in fact, an optical illusion.
A lone Perseid plays sidekick to the vibrant Milky Way.
The Perseids can be viewed from mid-July, with the peak in activity occurring between August 9 and 14, when 60 or more meteors per hour can be seen rushing across the sky.
Being able to optimise the probability of this happening is the key skill in meteor photography.
